Neon has released a new red-band trailer for Osgood ‘Oz’ Perkins’ ‘The Monkey<\/strong>‘, which is based on Stephen King’s 1980 short story of the same name.<\/p>\n

The film is based on Stephen King’s short story, and will feature Theo James as the twin brothers Hal and Bill, who find their father’s old monkey toy in the attic. As a series of horrific deaths begin to occur around them, the brothers decide to throw the monkey away and move forward with their lives, growing apart over the years.<\/p>\n

Perkins is behind the script and direction for the remake, which features Elijah Wood, Tatiana Maslany, Christian Convery, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy. Perkins’ latest Neon film is ‘The Monkey<\/strong>‘, following the success of ‘Longlegs’ as the highest-grossing film released last summer by the distributor. The feature even overshadowed Neon’s Best Picture winner ‘Parasite<\/strong>‘ at the box office. Perkins already has a third film set at Neon, but details remain under wraps. ‘Longlegs’<\/b>\u00a0was Perkins\u2019 first feature with the distributor.<\/p>\n<\/ins>\n

Perkins revealed to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> that \u201c\u201cIt\u2019s feeling more like an old John Landis movie or a Joe Dante movie or a Robert Zemeckis movie,\u201d the filmmaker said at the time. \u201cI saw an opportunity to make a wry, absurdist comedy about death.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s about the very basic fact that we all die \u2014 and how fucking funny and weird and impossible and surreal is that shit? And to come at it from a tragicomedy kind of voice felt like it fit.\u201d He added, \u201cAt the end of the day, if you want to reduce it, it\u2019s the haunted toy or evil toy subgenre, and I couldn\u2019t imagine doing a serious one of those. To me, it rang utterly false to approach it that way, so I just went in the other direction.\u201d<\/p>\n

‘The Monkey<\/strong>‘ is produced by James Wan, Dave Caplan, Michael Clear, Chris Ferguson, and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones. The film is Perkins\u2019 first feature since ‘Longlegs<\/strong>‘ became Neon\u2019s highest-grossing movie ever and one of the top-grossing horror movies of 2024.<\/p>\n
