Regardless of their time period, political adversaries will always be defined by the same ideal – the extreme lengths leaders will go to maintain their power, as their opponents determinedly try to\u00a0stop and expose their tactics. That’s certainly the case for the cast featured in the new historical mystery documentary, The Spies Among Us<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The film chronicles how a a previous victim of East Germany’s Stasi confronts former East German secret police officers to expose the personal costs of dictatorship. Overall, <\/span>The Spies Among Us<\/em><\/strong> offers a rare look into the inner workings of a data-driven surveillance state run by the Stasi, one of the most feared secret police forces the world has ever known.<\/p>\n

A personal investigation into family secrets by Peter Keup, a Stasi victim-turned-historian, takes a turn when he contacts the men who ran the system. These are the first conversations of their kind between Stasi officers and a victim.<\/p>\n

The feature was directed and produced by married filmmaking team, Jamie Coughlin Silverman and Gabriel Silverman. The latter also served as the cinematographer on the movie. In addition to Keup, the film also includes Heinz Engelhardt, Jochem Girke, Bernd Roth, Harald Korff, Roland Keup, Uta Keup, Susanne Sch\u00e4dlich, Uwe Wons and Michael Schindler.<\/p>\n<\/ins>\n

The Spies Among Us<\/em><\/strong> is having its World Premiere during the Documentary Feature Competition<\/a> at this year’s SXSW<\/a>. The movie’s premiere screening will be held today, Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 11:45am MT. The project will play in two theaters at <\/span>Austin’s Alamo Drafthouse Cinema South Lamar, screens 3 and 4. The film will also screen during the festival on March 12 and March 15.<\/p>\n

To help promote\u00a0The Spies Among Us<\/em><\/strong>‘ World Premiere at SXSW, Jamie and Gabriel generously took the time earlier this week to talk about helming and producing together, and the latter serving as the cinematographer on the feature. The filmmakers discussed the project during an exclusive interview, whose video can be viewed above.<\/p>\n
