While there, he ends up becoming unwittingly involved in the country\u2019s military government politics when the daughter of the school\u2019s maid is taken by men, presumed to be a revolutionary. The country\u2019s politics also close the school down for a week, so Michell decides to go to Uruguay on vacation, and having an encounter with a young penguin trapped in an oil slick, which he takes in to impress a woman he\u2019s met. What Michell doesn\u2019t realize is that he would then become responsible for the penguin, bringing it back to the school in Argentina where he needs to keep it hidden.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_29214\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-29214\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/PenguinLessonsWW.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-29214\" src=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/PenguinLessonsWW.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/PenguinLessonsWW.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/PenguinLessonsWW-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/PenguinLessonsWW-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/PenguinLessonsWW-696x464.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-29214\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Steve Coogan and friend in The Penguin Lessons (courtesy Sony Pictures Classics)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Directed by Peter Cattaneo, best known for directing <\/span><b>The Full Monty<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> back in 1997, the film is not the type of cutesy animal movie that\u2019s frequently made by the studios for kids and family audiences, though the penguin portraying \u201cJuan Salvador\u201d \u2013 what it\u2019s dubbed by Michell\u2019s school \u2013 is indeed quite adorable. Mixing Coogan\u2019s cynical humor with a serious look into South American politics of the time, and the type of warm storytelling that often goes with movies involving animals, <\/span><b><i>The Penguin Lesson<\/i><\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is a wonderful treat that will have a nationwide release this weekend.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1774669342741533\" data-ad-slot=\"1211148813\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins><\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cinema Daily US<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> had a chance to speak with Coogan recently about making <\/span><b><i>The Penguin Lessons<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, working with a real live penguin as well as younger actors playing the boys in Michell\u2019s class.\u00a0 We also spoke about his work with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/interviews\/chivalry-interview-sarah-solemani\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sarah Solemani<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> on the short-lived mini-series, <\/span><b><i>Chivalry<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the possibility of working with her again and also any chance of him reteaming with Michael Winterbottom for another project.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>The Penguin Lessons<\/i><\/b><span
