{"id":29667,"date":"2025-05-05T20:30:17","date_gmt":"2025-05-06T00:30:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?p=29667"},"modified":"2025-05-05T20:30:17","modified_gmt":"2025-05-06T00:30:17","slug":"gareth-evans-hints-at-directing-third-installment-in-the-raid-franchise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?p=29667","title":{"rendered":"Gareth Evans Hints at Directing Third Installment in &#8216;The Raid&#8217; Franchise"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p class=\"p1\">\u00a9Courtesy of Sony Pictures Classics\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>Director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm2153088\/\">Gareth Evans<\/a> has hinted that he may indeed be making a third installment in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1899353\/\"><em><strong>The Raid<\/strong><\/em><\/a> series, following up on the original release in 2011 and its 2014 sequel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt2265171\/\"><em><strong>The Raid 2<\/strong><\/em>.<\/a><em><strong><br \/><\/strong><\/em><br \/>The filmmaker, whose latest action flick is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt14123284\/\"><em><strong>Havoc<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, starring Tom Hardy, was quoted in <a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/gareth-evans-raid-3-movie-update-iko-uwais-11722597\"><em>Entertainment Weekly<\/em><\/a> as saying, &#8220;Initially, I had a concept that would&#8217;ve followed immediately after the back of <em><strong>The Raid 2<\/strong><\/em>. It was set literally minutes after the second one finished, but then I got busy with other projects, and then, before I even had time to think about it, so many years had passed that I couldn&#8217;t do that version of that film anymore. So I kind of just left it and cast it aside and thought, &#8216;Okay, well, I was happy with where we finished in <em><strong>The Raid 2<\/strong><\/em>, so I&#8217;m probably not going to do another version, not do a third part. So I just dismissed it outright.&#8221;<br \/><br \/>Evans noted that he\u2019d reconnected with <em><strong>Raid<\/strong> <\/em>star <a href=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?s=Iko+Uwais\">Iko Uwais<\/a> while on a trip to Indonesia two years ago. The two had initially met in 2007 when Evans was filming a documentary on the martial art form known as<em> pencak silat<\/em>. The director was so impressed that he cast Uwais in his first movie, <em><strong>Merantau<\/strong><\/em>, which made its debut in 2009. Uwais next captured starring roles in the two <em><strong>Raid<\/strong> <\/em>films.<\/p>\r\n<p><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1774669342741533\" data-ad-slot=\"1211148813\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\u00a0<br \/><br \/>As Evans recalled, &#8220;I hadn&#8217;t seen Iko in maybe seven years, and it was the first time we&#8217;d met each other in a long time. We keep in touch, we WhatsApp each other all the time, but this was the first time I&#8217;d seen him in a long time. And I&#8217;ve always seen Iko, because of the nature of how we met and the projects we&#8217;ve done, as my younger kid brother. And then, seeing him after the seven-year gap of time, I was kind of struck by how much he&#8217;d grown, how much he&#8217;d matured, how many different experiences he&#8217;d had.&#8221; <br \/><br \/>Evans declared that their 2023 reunion gave him a new concept about what <em><strong>The Raid 3<\/strong> <\/em>could be. So I haven&#8217;t dismissed it outright, and it might be a conversation to reopen. And it&#8217;s definitely something that if I was going to do it, I&#8217;d make sure that it was the right version of that film to make&#8221; and that \u201ccould live up to the expectations\u201d of his fan base.<br \/><br \/>In <em><strong>Havoc<\/strong><\/em>, which is now streaming on Netflix, a corrupt cop named Walker, played by Tom Hardy, is shown battling his way through the criminal underworld.
