Alfonso Cuar\u00f3n<\/a> is no longer being considered to direct the twenty-sixth James Bond film\u2014the first for Amazon MGM Studios\u2014according to World of Reel<\/em> <\/a>and other sources. The Mexican director had previously turned down another chance to direct a 007 movie, saying that he would rather \u201cwatch and not do.\u201d

Most recently, Cuar\u00f3n had directed Roma<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, the 2018 dramatic film that earned three Academy Awards, including one for Best Director. In 2024, he created, wrote, and directed Disclaimer<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, a limited series for Apple TV+.

Speculation about who would direct the new Bond film has been rampant since February, when creative control of the franchise was turned over to Amazon MGM in a billion-dollar deal with long-standing producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. The duo will still remain co-owners, however.<\/p>\r\n

When the deal was sealed, Amazon tapped Amy Pascal<\/a> and David Heyman<\/a> to produce the upcoming film. Rumors about Cuar\u00f3n\u2019s involvement came when he was reported to have told a master class earlier this year: \u201cThere is indeed this project under discussion, and I have the desire \u2013 if it happens \u2013 to revisit this story in my own way.\u201d

Pascal comes to the table with a track record working on Bond movies for Sony, including Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall<\/strong><\/em>, and Spectre<\/strong><\/em>. For his part, Heyman produced every Harry Potter movie, including Prison of Azkaban<\/strong><\/em>, which was directed by.Cuar\u00f3n. Heyman is also listed as the producer of Gravity<\/strong><\/em>, which earned an Oscar for Cuar\u00f3n.<\/p>\r\n

Alfonso Cuar\u00f3n’s first features produced in the United States were adaptations of the literary classics A Little Princess<\/strong> <\/em>and Great Expectations<\/strong><\/em>. His breakthrough film was Y tu mam\u00e1 tambi\u00e9n<\/span><\/strong><\/em>, which he directed in 2001, sharing an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay with his brother and co-writer, Carlos.<\/p>\r\n

Amazon MGM has not indicated when a director\u2014or a leading actor\u2014might be chosen for the new Bond film.<\/p>\r\n
