{"id":30084,"date":"2025-06-02T20:21:22","date_gmt":"2025-06-03T00:21:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?p=30084"},"modified":"2025-06-02T20:35:23","modified_gmt":"2025-06-03T00:35:23","slug":"director-james-gunn-acnowledges-godzilla-minus-one-inspired-superman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?p=30084","title":{"rendered":"Director James Gunn Acnowledges &#8216;Godzilla Minus One&#8221; Inspired &#8216;Superman&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a9Courtesy of Toho Pictures.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><br \/>\u201cIt\u2019s a monster, it\u2019s a <em>kaiju<\/em>, it\u2019s Superman!\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p>According to director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0348181\/\">James Gunn<\/a>, his upcoming <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt5950044\/\"><strong>Superman<\/strong><\/a> <\/em>film debuting on July 11 was inspired by Toho\u2019s recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt23289160\/\"><em><strong>Godzilla Minus One<\/strong><\/em> <\/a>movie, which was released to mark the 70<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of that franchise.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/news\/director-james-gunn-acnowledges-godzilla-minus-one-inspired-superman\/\"><em>Cinematoday<\/em><\/a>, Gunn made it clear that he had the Tokusatsu genre in mind, a reference to films that employ giant monsters as adversaries. The director was quoted as saying, \u201cI tried to fuse elements like giant monsters, robots, flying dogs, other superheroes.\u201d Continuing, Gunn said that his goal was \u201cto make a film that depicts Godzilla like <em><strong>Godzilla Minus One<\/strong><\/em> but also [as] a great human drama. Superman and the flying dog [Krypto] also appear in this film, but at its core is a human story. The relationship between Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and [villain] Lex Luthor is at the core of the work.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p><em><strong>Godzilla Minus One<\/strong><\/em>, which won the Toho studio an Oscar\u2014its first\u2014for visual effects in addition to being a blockbuster at theaters the world over, was made on a relatively low budget of $10-$15 million. On the heels of these triumphs, Toho said that writer\/director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0945724\/\">Takashi Yamazaki<\/a> would be making a new film in the Godzilla franchise, though no\u00a0 further details were revealed.<\/p>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1774669342741533\" data-ad-slot=\"1211148813\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<p>In announcing the new project, Yamazaki said he was optimistic about the future of the franchise, adding that he was \u201creally happy to see this\u00a0 excitement. I\u2019m also happy that there are so many children here.
