Russell Crowe<\/a> will be joining Henry Cavill<\/a> in the upcoming remake of Highlander<\/strong> <\/em><\/a>by Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists. Crowe will be playing the role of mentor to Cavill\u2019s character, Connor MacLeod, a role akin to that of Juan S\u00e1nchez-Villalobos Ram\u00edrez, played by Sean Connery in the original film. Crowe and Cavill had recently appeared as a father-and-son duo in “Man of Steel<\/strong><\/em>.”<\/p>\r\n

The “Highlander”<\/strong> <\/em>reboot will be helmed by John Wick director\u00a0 Chad Stahelski<\/a> from a script by Michael Finch. Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt of United Artists will produce the project alongside Neal H. Moritz and Chad Stahelski\u2019s production company 87Eleven Entertainment.<\/p>\r\n

The original 1986 “Highlander”<\/strong> <\/em>movie, directed by Russell Mulcahy, starred Christopher Lambert and Connery in a cult-classic saga about a group of immortals who engage in swordfights from ancient times to the present day.<\/p>\r\n

In an article for msn.com<\/a>, Stahelski was quoted as saying; “And we’re bringing it forward from the early 1500s in the highlands to the beyond present-day New York and Hong Kong, and seeing how it goes. There’s big opportunity for action. There’s a chance to play a character that not a lot of people get to play. And it’s a bit of a love story, but not how you think. On “John Wick”<\/strong><\/em>, I learned a lot on how to bend the storytelling a little… another kind of myth.<\/p>\r\n

“My selling point was, to [Henry Cavill], look, you’ve got a guy that’s been alive for over 500 years. He’s the last person in the world that wanted to be in this situation. So you get to cover quite a broad spread of a character arc there. And you get to experience someone that’s trained over 500 years and sort of played [with many types of] martial arts…”

Crowe\u2019s next project is playing the role of Adolf Hitler\u2019s buddy Hermann G\u00f6ring in “Nuremberg”<\/strong><\/em>, directed by James Vanderbilt for release by Sony Pictures Classics on November 7. Other of Crowe\u2019s recent films include “Unaborn”<\/strong><\/em>, “Billion Dollar Spy”<\/strong><\/em>, and “Bear Country<\/strong><\/em>.”
