{"id":30423,"date":"2025-06-26T22:49:41","date_gmt":"2025-06-27T02:49:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?p=30423"},"modified":"2025-06-30T13:36:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-30T17:36:10","slug":"m3gan-2-0-review-the-film-intelligently-dares-to-try-new-ways","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?p=30423","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;M3GAN 2.0&#8217; Review : The Film Intelligently Dares to Try New Ways"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>@Courtesy of Universal Pictures<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the remarkable box office success of the first <\/span><b>M3gan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ($95 million grossed only in the U.S. Market, $180 million worldwide, a huge haul for a production budget of $12 million) it was virtually impossible for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?s=jason+blum\"><b>Jason Blum<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;s <\/span><b>Blumhouse <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?s=james+wan\"><b>James Wan<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;s <\/span><b>Atomic Monster <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to pass up the opportunity for a second installment. Since these are two producers who still love genre cinema as well as obviously profit, the confirmed director <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm2067421\/?ref_=ttrv_fcr_dr_1\"><b>Gerard Johnstone<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was likely asked to make a second installment that did not slavishly follow the coordinates of the original. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And so he did: first of all, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt26342662\/reference\/\"><b>M3GAN 2.0<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> brings to the surface more of the black comedy cues we already saw in the first chapter, exploiting them mainly for a rather sharp commentary discourse towards our present now engulfed by artificial intelligence. Especially in the first half, this sequel contains moments of objectively tasty comedy, a compendium of gimmicks that comic character actors such as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm2755723\/?ref_=ttrv_fcr_cst_7\"><b>Brian Jordan Alvarez<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and newcomers <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm1318596\/?ref_=ttrv_fcr_cst_2\"><b>Jemaine Clement<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Timm Sharp<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> know how to exploit with precision and rhythm.<\/span><\/p>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1774669342741533\" data-ad-slot=\"1211148813\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another factor that makes the second installment of the creepy doll\/android adventures more than enjoyable is the script&#8217;s homage to the history of sci-fi cinema, from its early days to the most modern blockbusters. And we&#8217;re talking about masterpieces that really go back decades, such as <\/span><b>Fritz Lang<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;s masterpiece <\/span><b>Metropolis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, released way back in 1927.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-30443 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/M3GAn-2.0-4.png\" alt=\"M3Gan 2.0\" width=\"640\" height=\"322\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/M3GAn-2.0-4.png 640w, https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/M3GAn-2.0-4-300x151.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>@Courtesy of Universal Pictures<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you just have an ordinary knowledge of science fiction or more generally action cinema, you will find in <\/span><b>M3GAN 2.0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> more or less explicit references to such cornerstones as <\/span><b>Terminator<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><b>Mission: Impossible<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> franchise, and so on. It is a rollercoaster of guilty pleasures that have been incorporated into the script without distorting its objective, so tasty to enjoy if you can recognize them but not invasive, because this second installment has been crafted by Johnstone with undoubted competence, proving that you can change course while keeping a franchise consistently intriguing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>M3GAN 2.0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in fact starts out as a rather intriguing spy-thriller, immediately letting the viewer know that it is intended to explore different territories from the horror\/action of the first movie, and then continues on a spirited tone that offers well-orchestrated cinematic moments. Admittedly, it lacks the tension inherent in the horror cinema, but this shortcoming is compensated for by a show that possesses the necessary narrative strenght to keep the level of attention consistently high, when not with action through comic effective moments.<\/span><\/p>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1774669342741533\" data-ad-slot=\"1211148813\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The only big\u00a0 flaw in <\/span><b>M3GAN 2.0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> lies in an ending that, as is almost always the case in contemporary entertainment cinema, wants to put too much in roder to guarantee the audience a pyrotechnic spectacle, even when there would be no need for it. This way the twists and turns, the tight editing, and the fight scenes lose some of the cinephile flavor and irreverent comedy tone that the film had successfully explored earlier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-30444 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/M3GAN-2.03.png\" alt=\"M3Han 2.0 \" width=\"640\" height=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/M3GAN-2.03.png 640w, https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/M3GAN-2.03-300x197.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>@Courtesy of Universal Pictures<\/p>\n<p><b>M3GAN 2.0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ends in a much more conventional manner than how it began, and this affects &#8211; even if not decisively &#8211; the final result. Switching to the cast, as already mentioned the sidekicks intended to provide the right amount of irony turn out to be more valuable than the main actors, especially an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm4129745\/?ref_=ttrv_ov_1_1\"><b>Allison Williams<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who turns out being oddly less effective than in the past, in a couple of scenes almost \u201cbamboozled\u201d.
