Aaron Sorkin has made plans to return to Facebook. Aaron Sorkin has been hinting about a sequel to his Oscar-winning drama “The Social Network<\/strong>” for years, and now he seems to have found a new angle to focus on for his follow-up film.<\/p>\n

According to Deadline<\/a>, Sorkin is slated to direct the second part of The Social Network for Sony Pictures. The movie is not a sequel, but a follow-up to the original one that explored the origins of what would become the world’s biggest social media platform, according to insiders<\/p>\n

Ben Mezrich’s book The Accidental Billionaires provided inspiration for the first Social Network movie, “The Social Network<\/strong>” <\/i>was a huge hit with audiences and critics and earned $226 million at the global box office. Nominated for eight Oscars including Best Picture, the film won three, including Sorkin for Best Adapted Screenplay, while Jeff Horwitz’s series of articles for The Wall Street Journal called The Facebook Files were used to inspire the sequel. The new film project is in development with Todd Black, Peter Rice, Sorkin and Stuart Besser producing.<\/p>\n<\/ins>\n

Sources stress that the new film isn\u2019t a \u201cJanuary 6\u201d movie and will focus not just on the 2020 election but also Facebook\u2019s effect on teens, preteens, violence and countries outside the U.S.<\/p>\n

David Fincher was the director of the original, but Sorkin will take over the directing duties for this movie, having developed his skills since the original Social Network came out, his recent directing credits include “Molly\u2019s Game<\/strong>“<\/i>, “The Trial of the Chicago 7<\/strong>,” <\/i>and “Being the Ricardos<\/strong>.”<\/i><\/p>\n

Although there are no production dates yet, sources say that Sorkin will now focus on finding his ensemble after various deals have closed. Given how the original benefited actors like Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield, it can be expected that every agent in town will move quickly to bring their rising stars before Sorkin for the highly sought-after roles.<\/p>\n<\/ins>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
