The performer is in talks with the historical biopic&#8217;s director, Baz Luhrmann, and studio, Warner Bros, <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/08\/joan-of-arc-isla-johnston-baz-luhrmann-jehanne-darc-movie-1236486744\/\">Deadline<\/a> is reporting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"o-nav breadcrumb o-nav--horizontal u-text-align-center@mobile-max pmc-u-padding-t-1 pmc-u-padding-t-050@mobile-max\">The frontrunner to play Joan of Arc in the upcoming movie from the Oscar-nominated filmmaker made a name for herself by starring on <strong><em>The Queen&#8217;s Gambit<\/em><\/strong>. She played the younger version of Anya Taylor-Joy&#8217;s character of Beth Harmon in the early episodes of the coming-of-age period drama. Besides the mini-series, the performer also starred on the Apple TV+ sci-fi series <strong><em>Invasion<\/em><\/strong> and the British limited series <strong><em>Life After Life<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Joan of Arc character in Luhrmann&#8217;s next movie is a high-interest for young actresses. The French patron saint was burned at the stake in the 1400s. She was targeted after she led troops in the Siege of Orleans. Her other accomplishments include insisting on the coronation of Charles VII as the French king during the Hundred Years&#8217; War.<\/p>\n<p>The helmer of such acclaimed films as <em><strong>Moulin Rouge<\/strong><\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/news\/disney-reportedly-wants-elvis-filmmaker-baz-luhrmann-to-direct-tangled-live-action-remake\/\"><strong><em>Elvis<\/em><\/strong><\/a> and <em><strong>Romeo &amp; Juliet<\/strong><\/em>, is currently preparing <strong><em>Jehanne d&#8217;Arc<\/em><\/strong>. The preparation included narrowing the field of actresses he&#8217;s considering to cast as the eponymous character. He recently made his intentions of wanting to cast Johnston in the lead role known.<\/p>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1774669342741533\" data-ad-slot=\"1211148813\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\n<p>The Golden Globe-winning filmmaker\u00a0wrote the script for <strong><em>Jehanne d&#8217;Arc<\/em><\/strong> with playwright Ava Pickett. The latter recently conducted the first reading of the script for most of the teams from Warner Bros, including production, marketing and publicity.<\/p>\n<p>The filmmakers held the script read at the Chateau Marmont. The filmmakers read <strong><em>Jehanne d&#8217;Arc<\/em><\/strong>&#8216;s script in the same room where filmmakers read the first draft of <strong><em>Rebel Without a Cause<\/em><\/strong> for Warner Bros executives in the 1950s. Luhrmann&#8217;s design partner, Catherine Martin, supported Pickett&#8217;s script read with a visual presentation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto \">Johnston is considering the offer for the role, which may become a potential career-making opportunity for her. The Artists Partnership in the UK and UTA rep 18-year-old performer. Warner Bros has not yet commented on the actress&#8217; potential casting.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Jehanne d&#8217;Arc<\/em><\/strong> follows several other adaptions about the titular character. The heroine was the focus of the 1928 classic film, <em><strong>The Passion of Joan of Arc<\/strong><\/em>. She also led the Leelee Sobieski-led Canadian mini-series, <em><strong>Joan of Arc<\/strong><\/em>. Luc Besson co-scribed and helmed, and Milla Jovovich starred in, the other project.
