In 1971, the 15-year-old Andr\u00e9sen garnered much critical acclaim for his breakout performance as Tadzio in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0899581\/\">Luchino Visconti<\/a>\u2019s film <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0067445\/\"><em><strong>Death in Venice<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, a film adaptation of Thomas Mann\u2019s 1912 novella. In the iconic film, Tadzio was obsessively pursued by an older man portrayed by Dirk Bogarde.<\/p>\r\n<p>Described by Visconti as \u201cthe most beautiful boy In the world,\u201d Andr\u00e9sen, who was straight, expressed his discomfort when Visconti took the teenaged actor to a gay nightclub after the film\u2019s release. In 2003, Andr\u00e9sen told an interviewer that the experience made him feel \u201clike an exotic animal in a cage.\u201d<br \/><br \/>\u201cThe waiters at the club \u2026 looked at me uncompromisingly as if I was a nice meaty dish,\u201d he added. \u201cI knew I couldn\u2019t react. It would have been social suicide. But it was the first of many such encounters.\u201d<br \/><br \/>He complained that Visconti \u201cdidn\u2019t give a fuck\u201d about his feelings. \u201cLuchino was the sort of cultural predator who would sacrifice anything or anyone for the work,\u201d he declared.<br \/><br \/>Andr\u00e9sen further expressed his disdain for Visconti in a 2021 interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2021\/film\/news\/bjorn-andresen-sexual-exploitation-luciano-visconti-death-in-venice-1235122373\/\"><em>Variety<\/em><\/a>, recalling how the Italian director had \u201cposed me with one foot against the wall, I would never stand like that. When I watch it now, I see how that son of a bitch sexualized me,\u201d he complained.<br \/><br \/>A pianist and musician who performed and toured regularly with the Sven Erics dance band, Andr\u00e9sen became a pop-culture icon in Japan. Petri and Kristina Lindstr\u00f6m\u2019s documentary about his life, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt8801666\/\"><em><strong>The Most Beautiful Boy in the World<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, premiered at Sundance in 2021, winning its World Cinema Documentary Grand Jury Prize.<br \/><br \/>Andr\u00e9sen suffered many tragedies during his life. His father died in an accident when Andr\u00e9sen was young, and his mother committed suicide when he was 10. His own son, Elvin, died of sudden infant death syndrome when he was nine months old, sending the actor into a period of deep depression and alcohol abuse after it was reported that the drunken Andr\u00e9sen was lying next to Elvin when he died. <br \/><br \/>Andr\u00e9sen, who had been married to his ex-wife, the poet Susanna Roman, is survived by a daughter, Robine.
