The new thriller, <strong><em>Wake Up Dead Man<\/em><\/strong>, is proving just that, as its central character, Benoit Blanc, admits that its his <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">most layered <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and unexpected case to date.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Rian Johnson returned to the <a href=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/interviews\/wake-up-dead-man-a-knives-out-mystery-press-conference-with-actor-josh-oconnor-and-director-rian-johnson\/\"><em><strong>Knives Out<\/strong><\/em><\/a> series to once again writer, direct and produce the latest entry. His followers include devout church lady Martha Delacroix (Close), circumspect groundskeeper Samson Holt (Church), tightly wound lawyer Vera Draven (Washington), aspiring politician Cy Draven (McCormack), town doctor Nat Sharp (Renner), bestselling author Lee Ross (Scott) and concert cellist Simone Vivane (Spaeny).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"m_9087854895307784314m_-5945017561435880863gmail-docs-internal-guid-e5888692-7fff-6eab-17b6-32d202ae0425\">A sudden and seemingly impossible murder soon rocks the town. As a result, the lack of an obvious suspect prompts local police chief Geraldine Scott (Kunis) to join forces with renowned detective Benoit Blanc to unravel a mystery that defies all logic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Like like its two predecessors,\u00a0<strong><em><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Wake Up Dead Man<\/span><\/em> <\/strong><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">delivers incisive social <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">critiques through the lens of intrigue and humor. Johnson once again fearlessly<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"> explores the nature of\u00a0political hypocrisy. The cameras also show stunning<span id=\"page83R_mcid11\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u00a0costuming from Jenny <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Eagan, and enthralling editing by Bob Ducsay that captures<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u00a0the<\/span><span class=\"markedContent\"> movie&#8217;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">s atmospheric tone.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page83R_mcid13\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em class=\"eujQNb\" data-processed=\"true\"><strong>Wake Up Dead Man<\/strong><\/em> offers a darker, faith-focused mystery with impressive visuals and stellar acting. The gothic atmosphere is more stylized than the franchise&#8217;s previous\u00a0 installments.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>O&#8217;Connor also thrives as his <span class=\"T286Pc\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-processed=\"true\">scenes as the conflicted young priest,\u00a0 who&#8217;s driven by a mix of vulnerability, darkness and humor. <\/span>The performer effortlessly embodies a character who commits himself to his faith with a sense of sincerity and struggle.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Wake Up Dea<\/strong><strong>d<\/strong><strong> Man<\/strong><\/em> stands out in the <em><strong>Knives Out<\/strong><\/em> series for leaning into the commentary on political hypocrisy that has become popular in present-day news cycles. The group quickly believes Father Jud is the likeliest suspect, despite there not being any evidence to support the idea. He<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"> has a very<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">complicated relationship with religion. But he&#8217;s <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">also humble enough to know there&#8217;s something <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">bigger happening than him at that moment.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"551\"><strong><em data-start=\"12\" data-end=\"30\">Wake Up Dead Man<\/em><\/strong> proves to be both the most somber and the most thematically ambitious entry in Johnson&#8217;s Benoit Blanc trilogy. By fusing a classic locked-room mystery with an unflinching examination of faith, power, and political hypocrisy, Johnson pushes the series into darker, more introspective territory.
