Carl Erik Rinsch, a film director, was sentenced to prison this week for defrauding Netflix out of $11 million by claiming to have created a TV series that never materialized.<\/p>\n
CBS News reported that a federal prosecutor’s spokesperson stated that the director of “47 Ronin<\/strong>” has been convicted of wire fraud, money laundering, and other charges.<\/p>\n According to prosecutors, Netflix initially offered Rinsch around $44 million for an unfinished sci-fi series called ‘Conquest’ (aka “White Horse<\/strong>“), and thereafter sent him an additional $11 million to cover the production costs.<\/p>\n Rinsch put the cash in a personal account instead of using it for the show, which was later used for failed investments and cryptocurrency. In addition, he spent lavishly on things like multiple Rolls-Royces, a Ferrari, and luxury bedding worth over $1 million, and paid off nearly $2 million in credit card charges.<\/p>\n Rinsch’s sentencing date is scheduled for April because he did not finish the show.
