Wilimon first came to prominence as a playwright, writing <em>Farragut North<\/em>, which he adapted to the screen in 2011 for <strong><em>The Ides or March,<\/em><\/strong> starring George Clooney. <br \/><br \/>Willmon also was the creator and showrunner for Netflix\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1856010\/\"><strong>House of Cards<\/strong><\/a>, which ran for several seasons. Most recently, he contributed his talents to <strong><em>Andor<\/em><\/strong>, the Emmy-winning <em><strong>Star Wars<\/strong><\/em> series for Disney+.<br \/><br \/>Based on the best-selling fantasy novels by George R.R. Martin, <em><strong>Game of Thrones<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>ran as a television series for eight seasons and won a king\u2019s ransom of Emmy awards.<br \/>Plans to adapt <em><strong>Game of Thrones<\/strong><\/em> into a movie have been in the works for more than a decade. Back in 2013, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss proposed that HBO make three feature films based on the epic story, but the idea went nowhere at the time.<\/p>\r\n<p><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1774669342741533\" data-ad-slot=\"1211148813\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\u00a0<br \/><br \/>According to a recent cover story in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/game-of-thrones-movie-andor-aegon-1236520509\/\"><em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>, both HBO and Warner Bros. were independently working on adaptations of the earlier <em><strong>Game of Thrones<\/strong><\/em> narratives.<br \/>At this point, however, it\u2019s unclear how Warner Bros. might proceed with the adaptation, given the anticipated uncertainty surrounding the proposed merger with Paramount Skydance. However, Paramount&#8217;s chief David Elllison has said Game of Thrones is one of his favorites.<br \/><br \/>Although no plot details have yet been confirmed, it\u2019s been reported that Willimon\u2019s story will finally bring King Aegon I to the screen in connection with his founding of the Targaryen dynasty and his conquest of Westeros\u2014events that took place centuries before those depicted in the original television series.
