It was produced by the Tokyo-based Kinoshita Group and Kino Films, in conjunction with Cross Media Entertainment in the US, J&amp;B Entertainment in Thailand, and Chanh Phuong Films in Vietnam.<\/p>\r\n<p><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1774669342741533\" data-ad-slot=\"1211148813\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\u00a0<br \/><br \/>Rodney Hicks, who plays the title role of Allen Nelson, is best known for his appearances in <em><strong>Rent<\/strong><\/em>, the Broadway musical, and in\u00a0<strong><em>Forever,<\/em><\/strong> the 2025 Netflix series. Allen\u2019s story was documented in Japan in a 2003 book and manga. In real-life, Nelson was a veteran who overcame his post-traumatic stress disorder by lecturing widely throughout Japan and Okinawa until his death in 2009. ,in his endeavor to overcome his trauma, Allen is assisted by Dr. Daniels, a VA physician played by Oscar-winning actor Geoffrey Rush.\u00a0 Other cast members include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0004700\/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_0_nm_8_in_0_q_tatyana\">Tatyana Ali <\/a>as his wife Linda and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm15659780\/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_3_nm_5_in_0_q_mark%20merphy\">Mark Merphy<\/a> as the younger Allen.<br \/><br \/>Tsukamoto was quoted as saying: \u201dWhen I was adapting <em><strong>Fires of the Plain<\/strong><\/em> for the screen, I read a wide range of materials and books, but the most terrifying work of nonfiction I encountered was <em><strong>Mr. Nelson, Did You Kill People?<br \/><\/strong><\/em><br \/>\u201cAllen Nelson killed many people during the Vietnam War,\u201d the director continued. He was plagued by the aftermath of the war for the rest of his life. This book, in which he poured out his crimes and the life that followed without holding anything back, has stayed with me ever since and is deeply etched in my heart.\u201d<br \/><br \/>According to Tsukamoto, the filmmaking process has been a seven-year tug of war between wanting to tell the story and being overwhelmed by its darkness. \u201cIn today\u2019s world, where conflicts are raging in various places, I\u2019ve come to feel this reality more acutely than ever,\u201d he added.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>Mr. Nelson, Did You Kill People?<\/strong><\/em> is Shinya Tsukamoto\u2019s second film made outside Japan, following <em><strong>Tetsuo: The Bullet Man<\/strong><\/em>, which appeared in the Venice Biennalle in 2009.
