Pictures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Rumors have been swirling about Viggo Mortensen not returning to the role he made famous in the original &#8216;The Lord of the Rings&#8217; trilogy, and Leo Woodall (&#8216;<strong>Nuremberg&#8217;<\/strong>) being the preferred choice for the role being recast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Despite all the reports, it was never confirmed that anyone involved in the production had planned a recast \u2013 until now. While speaking with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/aragorn-recast-lord-of-the-rings-the-hunt-for-gollum-confirmed-andy-serkis\/\">ScreenRant<\/a>, Serkis says: <i>\u201cI don\u2019t know what\u2019s out there at the moment, but I know there\u2019s a lot of speculation, but let\u2019s just say we are recasting the role and we are on the way to finding someone.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1774669342741533\" data-ad-slot=\"1211148813\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\n<p class=\"p1\">Serkis also confirmed the casting of Kate Winslet in an undisclosed part. Meanwhile, actor Elijah Wood, who appeared on a recent\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AXCcJdNBCkU\">Happy Sad Confused<\/a> episode, Wood responded: \u201cThat is true. Those are tough boots, man. That is tough. I can\u2019t imagine. But that\u2019s going to be great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Wood didn\u2019t confirm Woodall\u2019s involvement and still will not confirm if he himself is back in the movie as the Hobbit Frodo. He does say the film has a smaller scope than the original trilogy:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><i>\u201cIt is a side quest. It\u2019s a side story. I think it\u2019ll provide a lot of context for Gollum and an understanding of that character that we only got a bit of in the prologue. I think we\u2019ll see more of that.<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><i>I don\u2019t think it has to [live up to the trilogy\u2019s expectations]. It doesn\u2019t bear the weight of the trilogy. It\u2019s not the trilogy. It\u2019s not those books, but it is certainly excerpts from the books. And it is characters from the books. And it is all canon. I can say that. \u201c<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Ian McKellen previously teased that the film would feature Gandalf and Frodo. Serkis will direct, executive produce, and star in the film, which Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou co-wrote.
