TriStar Pictures has hired Oscar-winning filmmaker Bill Condon to direct its planned remake of Guys and Dolls<\/i><\/b>.\u00a0\u00a0TriStar has acquired the rights to the original Damon Runyon short stories and the musical with music by Frank Loesser, as well as the remake rights to the 1955 film adaptation by the Samuel Goldwyn.<\/p>\n

Guys and Dolls is set in Depression-era New York. A Gambler tries to find the cash to set up the biggest craps game in town while the authorities breathe down his neck.\u00a0Guys and Dolls<\/i><\/b> premiered on Broadway in 1950 and garnered five Tony Awards including Best Musical.\u00a0 <\/span>A big-screen adaptation — which is now regarded as a cinematic classic — followed in 1955, starring Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Jean Simmons and Vivian Blaine.\u00a0Songs include \u201cLuck Be a Lady Tonight,\u201d \u201cSit Down You\u2019re Rockin\u2019 the Boat,\u201d \u201cA Bushel and a Peck,\u201d \u201cAdelaide\u2019s Lament.\u201d<\/p>\n

Condon previously worked on the movie musicals Chicago, Dreamgirls, The Greatest Showman<\/i><\/b>, and Beauty and the Beast<\/i><\/b>. John Goldwyn and Marc Toberoff are producing the film, and Nicole Brown, Shary Shirazi are overseeing for the studio.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Hollywood has been trying to make a new version of Guys and Dolls for years. So far, no casting has been announced yet for Condon\u2019s project, but actors Channing Tatum, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Vin Diesel have expressed interest<\/a> in starring in a Guys and Dolls remake in the past.<\/p>\n
