{"id":34538,"date":"2026-06-13T16:38:50","date_gmt":"2026-06-13T20:38:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?p=34538"},"modified":"2026-06-13T16:38:50","modified_gmt":"2026-06-13T20:38:50","slug":"two-set-of-writers-to-write-monopoly-movie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?p=34538","title":{"rendered":"Two Sets of Writers to Write &#8220;Monopoly&#8221; Movie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Courtesy of Hasbro<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Two teams of writers have taken on the task of adapting the board game &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Monopoly_(game)\">Monopoly<\/a>&#8221; into a film, with <a href=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?s=lionsgate\">Lionsgate<\/a> is producing the film, as well as LuckyChap and Hasbro Entertainment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/06\/monopoly-movie-lionsgate-developing-two-new-takes-1236954940\/\">Deadline<\/a> reports that two scripts are currently in development \u2013 one by &#8220;<strong>Minecraft Movie<\/strong>&#8221; scribes Neil Widener and Gavin Jessica, and the other by &#8220;<strong>Dumb Money<\/strong>&#8221; writers Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The studios are reportedly expected to have two separate templates, and they will probably hire a single script from those. The four writers replace acclaimed &#8220;Spider-Man: Homecoming&#8221; scribes and &#8220;<strong>Game Night<\/strong>&#8221; directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who had closed a deal to pen the movie a year ago \u2013 the other version being scrapped.<\/p>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1774669342741533\" data-ad-slot=\"1211148813\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\n<p class=\"p1\">The game of Monopoly, which started in 1935, sees players competing to acquire properties, construct buildings and hotels, all while trying to avoid going to jail and bankruptcy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Multiple efforts to transform the game into a film have occurred over nearly two decades, with nobody succeeding.
