“Bad Lieutenant<\/strong><\/a>” can be considered part of the most unconventional pieces of Hollywood’s intellectual property. The film series debuted in 1992, starring Harvey Keitel, an actor portraying a corrupt, unnamed NYPD cop and drug addict. Ferrara never sought a sequel, but 17 years later, Herzog unofficially took up the challenge with “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans<\/strong><\/a>,” a darkly funny tale about a cop, starring Nicolas Cage as the lead.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no official connection between the films, and Ferrara\u00a0famously disavowed Herzog\u2019s film<\/b><\/a>\u00a0and said he hoped Herzog and Cage would \u201cdie in Hell\u201d for making it, but the films are forever associated in the minds of many cinephiles. And now a third legendary director is putting his spin on things with his own \u201cBad Lieutenant\u201d story about a corrupt police officer.<\/p>\n

Neon unveil the initial glimpse of Takashi Miike’s “Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo<\/strong><\/a>,” a new film from the consistently prolific “Audition<\/strong>” director, positioned beneath the illuminated skies of Tokyo. Starring Lily James<\/a>, Shun Oguri<\/a>, and WWE wrestler Liv Morgan, this neo-noir was penned by Daisuke Tengan, a frequent collaborator of neo-noir mastermind Miike.<\/p>\n

An official synopsis for the film reads: \u201cA disgraced Tokyo detective spirals into a world of corruption, addiction, and violence as he becomes entangled in a twisted investigation involving a vengeful ex-yakuza, an enigmatic FBI agent, and a missing daughter of a powerful American family.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBad Lieutenant: Tokyo<\/strong>\u201d will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
