Recently, producer Jerry Bruckheimer<\/a> provided the most recent update on a potential sixth “Pirates of the Caribbean<\/strong><\/a>” film, which appeared to be gaining some momentum.<\/p>\n

Not even a month prior, Oscar contender Krysty Wilson-Cairns (“1917<\/strong>“) was said to be negotiating the screenplay, as Bruckheimer told ET that he had met with Margot Robbie regarding the sequel to the Pirates series.<\/p>\n

Robbie was meant to head a “Pirates of the Caribbean<\/strong>” spin-off, but that project failed to materialize, whether it’s true or not, Bruckheimer seems to want her for the upcoming major installment, and Josh D’Amaro, the new Disney CEO, was eager to get the project underway.<\/p>\n

Cut to D23 this weekend, with Bruckheimer speaking to Deadline, he said: “We’re in talks with Johnny<\/a>, working on a screenplay, and hopefully we can finalize this.”<\/p>\n

According to other sources, the new film is expected to shift the spotlight onto Robbie’s character as the lead, with Depp playing a more significant but supporting role \u2013 much like his role in the original movie.<\/p>\n
