Film at Lincoln Center<\/a> announces Talks for the 64th New York Film Festival<\/a> (NYFF64<\/span>). The\u00a0NYFF64<\/span>\u00a0Talks program complements the festival\u2019s film slate with a diverse lineup of wide-ranging conversations with renowned auteurs, emerging filmmakers, industry craftspeople, and special guests. Presented by Film at Lincoln Center in partnership with Rolex,\u00a0NYFF64<\/span>\u00a0takes place September 25 through October 12 at Lincoln Center and in venues across the city.<\/p>\n

For the festival\u2019s sixth annual Amos Vogel Lecture,\u00a0NYFF64<\/span>\u00a0will welcome\u00a0Ry\u00fbsuke Hamaguchi<\/b><\/a>, director of Main Slate selection\u00a0All of a Sudden<\/i>. The Amos Vogel Lecture was founded in 2021 to honor the pioneering film programmer, author, and NYFF co-founder, and is delivered by an artist or thinker who embodies the subversive spirit of Vogel\u2019s cinephilia. Hamaguchi\u2019s latest work embodies Vogel\u2019s description of cinema as \u201ca place of magic where psychological and environmental factors combine to create an openness to wonder and suggestion.\u201d<\/p>\n

The\u00a0NYFF64<\/span>\u00a0lineup of Deep Focus Talks, which feature in-depth dialogues with festival filmmakers, includes\u00a0Paper Tiger\u00a0<\/i>director\u00a0James Gray<\/b><\/a>, in conversation with\u00a0Martin Scorsese<\/b><\/a>;\u00a0Lee Chang-dong\u00a0<\/b>(Possible Love<\/i>);\u00a0Mike Leigh<\/a>\u00a0<\/b>(Tender Loving Care<\/i>);\u00a0Valeska Grisebach<\/b>\u00a0(The Dreamed Adventure<\/i>); and\u00a0Ava DuVernay\u00a0<\/b>(14th<\/i>).<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s selection of Crosscuts, pairing filmmakers across festival sections, genres, and styles, includes conversations between\u00a0Andrew Haigh\u00a0<\/b>(A Long Winter<\/i>) and\u00a0Ira Sachs\u00a0<\/b>(The Man I Love<\/i>);\u00a0Pedro Almod\u00f3var<\/b>\u00a0<\/a>(Bitter Christmas<\/i>) and\u00a0Sofia Coppola\u00a0<\/b>(Making Marie Antoinette<\/i>); and\u00a0Alain Gomis\u00a0<\/b>(Dao<\/i>),\u00a0Arie Esiri<\/b>, and\u00a0Chuko Esiri<\/b>\u00a0(Clarissa<\/i>).<\/p>\n

Roundtable discussions include\u00a0Seeing Stars<\/b>, a panel with casting directors whose ingenuity and instincts are on virtuosic display across the sterling ensemble casts featured in\u00a0NYFF64<\/span>\u00a0films;\u00a0Making the Cut<\/b>, exploring the craft of film editing and how editors\u2019 creative contributions interact with the labor of directors, cinematographers, and others; and\u00a0NYFF Currents and\u00a0The Edges of Cinema<\/i><\/b>, featuring scholar and critic Erika Balsom leading a panel of filmmakers from the\u00a0NYFF64<\/span>\u00a0Currents lineup.<\/p>\n

Film Comment<\/i>, the renowned independent film magazine, will host two live discussions:\u00a0Sex in the Cinema<\/b>, centered around what thrills and terrifies us about sexuality on screen; and the annual\u00a0Festival Report<\/b>, covering highlights from\u00a0NYFF64<\/span>\u00a0with\u00a0Film Comment<\/i>\u00a0editors and critics.<\/p>\n

NYFF Trivia Night<\/b>, hosted by Cinephile: A Card Game, returns for its fifth year in the Amphitheater at Film at Lincoln Center\u2019s Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center, featuring multiple trivia rounds including NYFF history and beyond, with chances to win tickets to sold-out\u00a0NYFF64<\/span>\u00a0screenings and more prizes. NYFF Trivia Nights are sponsored by MUBI, the global streaming service, production company, and film distributor dedicated to elevating great cinema.<\/p>\n

Talks are organized by Devika Girish and Madeline Whittle, in collaboration with Dennis Lim.<\/p>\n
