{"id":4278,"date":"2021-08-12T15:17:48","date_gmt":"2021-08-12T19:17:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?p=4278"},"modified":"2021-08-12T15:18:18","modified_gmt":"2021-08-12T19:18:18","slug":"robin-accepts-a-date-with-a-man-in-new-issue-of-batman-urban-legends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?p=4278","title":{"rendered":"Robin Accepts a Date with a Man in New Issue of &#8216;Batman: Urban Legends&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tim Drake, one iteration of Batman&#8217;s young sidekick Robin, is exploring his bisexuality in the latest issue of the comic book, <em><strong>Batman: Urban Legends<\/strong><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the August installment of the monthly anthology series, which was released on Tuesday, Tim accepts an invitation for a date from his old friend, Bernard, with whom he recently reunited, <a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/books\/robin-comes-out-as-bisexual-in-batman-urban-legends-comic\/\">EW.com<\/a> reported.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Yeah &#8230; yeah, I think I want that,&#8221; Tim replies when Bernard asks him out after Robin saves Bernard from the villain, the Chaos Monster.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/08\/10\/entertainment\/batman-robin-lgbtq-queer-comics-trnd\/index.html\">CNN<\/a> said the scope of Robin&#8217;s sexuality had not been directly addressed in the comic series before, although some versions of the character have had romances with women such as Stephanie Brown\/Spoiler.\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I love this character very much, and as I went back to reread as much as I could to do Robin justice, it became clear this is the story Tim needed to tell,&#8221; comic writer Meghan Fitzmartin said in an interview <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/comics\/22617395\/robin-gay-queer-batman-dc-comics\">with Polygon<\/a> about overtly depicting Tim\/Robin as attracted to men as well as women. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I wanted to pay tribute to the fact that sexuality is a journey,\u201d she added. \u201cHowever, Tim is still figuring himself out.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The book&#8217;s illustrator Bel\u00e9n Ortega celebrated on Twitter the positive feedback the issue is getting.\u00a0&#8220;<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">It\u2019s overwhelming all the comments and love I\u2019m receiving from you guys, thanks for your support on my very first series with @DCComics.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">See you soon Tim!<\/span>&#8221; Ortega <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BelenOrtega_\/status\/1425079077015277568?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1425079077015277568%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Few.com%2Fbooks%2Frobin-comes-out-as-bisexual-in-batman-urban-legends-comic%2F\">tweeted, <\/a>along with heart emojis and a rainbow flag.\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other DC Comics characters who at times have been identified as members of the LGBTQ+ community include lesbian Kate Kane\/Batwoman, bisexual Harley Quinn and transgender Victoria October.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/nbc-out\/out-pop-culture\/robin-explores-bisexuality-new-batman-comic-rcna1647\">NBC News<\/a> said that if Robin is confirmed as bisexual, he would be DC Comics&#8217; first out cisgender male hero.\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em><strong>Batman: Urban Legends<\/strong><\/em> is a monthly anthology series that debuted earlier this year.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tim Drake, one iteration of Batman&#8217;s young sidekick Robin, is exploring his bisexuality in the latest issue of the comic book, Batman: Urban Legends.
