Abrams&#8217; production company, Bad Robot, personally called him on Tarantino&#8217;s behalf. &#8220;They just called me and said, &#8216;Hey, are you up for it? Do you want to go? Quentin wants to hook up.&#8217; And I said, &#8216;Yeah,'&#8221; the scribe shared. &#8220;And that was the first day I met Quentin, in the room and he&#8217;s reading a scene that he wrote and it was this awesome cool gangster scene, and he&#8217;s acting it out and back and forth. I told him, I was so mad I didn&#8217;t record it on my phone. It would be so valuable. The news came after the direct said that the Emmy Award-nominated actor&#8217;s portrayal of Captain Kirk was the reason why he was interested in contributing to the current <em><strong>Star Trek<\/strong><\/em> film franchise, which started with Abrams&#8217; 2009 reboot.<\/p>\n<p>Tarantino mentioned to <a href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/happy-sad-confused\/id827905050\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">MTV<\/a> that he &#8220;thought Chris Pine did a fantastic job not just playing Capt. Kirk but playing William Shatner&#8217;s captain \u2014 he is William Shatner. He&#8217;s not just another guy, he&#8217;s William Shatner\u2019s Capt. Kirk.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Smith&#8217;s revelation about the time travel element in Tarantino&#8217;s <strong><em>Star Trek<\/em><\/strong> script comes after <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2020\/08\/star-trek-movie-reboot-noah-hawley-emma-watts-top-priority-paramount-pictures-1203007658\/\">Deadline<\/a> speculated on the news last August.
