Robert Carlyle has revealed a Trainspotting<\/strong> <\/em>TV series focusing on his iconic character Begbie is now in the works.\u00a0<\/span>Carlyle told NME<\/a> that his next project about the seedy side of Scotland is based on Irvine Welsh\u2019s book, The Blade Artist<\/strong><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Irvine [Welsh] and myself have been chatting quite a lot recently with a couple of excellent producers in London about [continuing the <\/span>Trainspotting<\/strong> story,]” he said.\u00a0<\/span>“As you know, there was another book called <\/span>The Blade Artist<\/i><\/strong> which is just entirely about Begbie and his mad story. It\u2019s still in its early moments, but it\u2019s looking pretty good that this will happen eventually.<\/p>\n

The actor said he expects the book will be adapted as a six-part, limited series, but it does not have a network or streaming home yet.\u00a0<\/span>“It\u2019s such a massive story — it\u2019s all Los Angeles back and forth to Edinburgh — and it\u2019s difficult to do all that in an hour and a half! Especially if you want to keep the basis of that book pure,” Carlyle explained.<\/p>\n

The Blade Artist<\/strong><\/em> finds former heroin addict Begbie rehabilitated and living in California where he goes by the name Jim Francis until a tragedy forces him to return to Scotland and confront his past.\u00a0<\/span>Oscar-winning filmmaker Danny Boyle directed the 1996 film version of Welsh\u2019s Trainspotting<\/strong> <\/em>book, as well as the movie\u2019s 2017 sequel, Trainspotting 2<\/strong><\/em>.
