Disney earned further celebration when Pixar&#8217;s <strong><em>Luca<\/em><\/strong> garnered eight nods for the ceremony, which recognize excellence in animated cinema and television.<\/p>\n<p>Sony and Netflix&#8217;s <em><strong>The Mitchells vs. the Machines<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>also landed eight nominations. The three family movies will compete against each other in several categories, the highest being the coveted Best Feature trophy.<\/p>\n<p>Gkids distributes three of the films vying for the Best Indie feature prize: <em><strong>Belle<\/strong>, <\/em><strong><em>Pompo the Cinephile<\/em><\/strong> and<strong><em> Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko<\/em><\/strong>. They will also battle against <em><strong>Flee<\/strong>,<\/em> which is Denmark&#8217;s official entry for the International Feature Oscar, and Netflix&#8217;s <strong><em>The Summit of the Gods<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The top television categories include Best TV\/Media \u2013 General Audience, whose nominees include <em><strong>Arcane<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>Bob\u2019s Burgers<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>Love, Death + Robots<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>Star Wars: Visions<\/strong><\/em> and <strong><em>Tuca &amp; Bertie<\/em><\/strong>. The Best TV\/Media \u2013 Children category will feature a race between <strong><em>Amphibia<\/em><\/strong><em>, <\/em><strong><em>Carmen Sandiego<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>Dug Days, Maya and the Three <\/em><\/strong>and <strong><em>We the People<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The nominees for Voice Acting \u2013 Feature are John Leguizamo and Stephanie Beatriz for <strong><em>Encanto<\/em><\/strong>), Jack Dylan Grazer for <em><strong>Luca<\/strong><\/em>, Kelly Marie Tran for <strong><em>Raya and the Last Dragon<\/em><\/strong> and Abbi Jacobson for <strong><em>The Mitchells vs. the Machines<\/em><\/strong>. The race for Voice Acting \u2013 TV\/Media includes Ella Purnell for <em><strong>Arcane<\/strong>,<\/em> Michael J. Woodard for <strong><em>Arlo the Alligator Boy<\/em><\/strong>, Parvesh Cheena for <em>Centaurworld<\/em>, Kimberly Brooks for <em>DC Super Hero Girls<\/em> and Charlie Saxton for <strong><em>Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The 49th annual Annie Awards ceremony will be held on February 26, 2022 at UCLA&#8217;s Royce Hall. It will be presented by the Los Angeles branch of the International Animated Film Association.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In spite of everything or maybe because of what we and the world around us have been through for nearly two years, we all want to return to some sort of normal,&#8221; Frank Gladstone, executive producer of the Annie Awards, said about moving forward with the 2022 edition.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;2021 brought another increase in Annie Awards submissions, ASIFA memberships and ongoing sponsorships,&#8221; Gladstone added. &#8220;So we are planning to return to UCLA&#8217;s Royce Hall for an in-person event with all the trimmings.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the 36 competitive award categories, the Annie Awards will honor achievements with juried prizes. Disney animator Ruben Aquino, computer pioneer Lillian Schwartz and Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki with receive the Winsor McCay Award for lifetime achievement.<\/p>\n<p>The June Foray Award for charitable contributions to the animation industry will go to filmmakers Renzo and Sayoko Kinoshita, founders of the Hiroshima International Animation Festival. The Python Foundation will be honored with the Ub Iwerks Award for technical advancement for its open-source Python programming language.<\/p>\n<p>Artist and author Glen Vilppu will receive a special achievement award for his work teaching a generation of animation professionals.
