After reports of the group’s lack of diversity in its membership and their eagerness to accept very generous gifts, NBC had announced that it would not air the broadcast this year. The postponement of other awards ceremonies due to the pandemic meant that having celebrities attend in-person, even if they agreed, probably wasn’t a great idea, so the Hollywood Foreign Press Association opted to have a private event that wouldn’t be livestreamed.
