According to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, the director died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday night at his home in Monticello, California. Reitman\u2019s early success came from his producing credit on Animal House<\/em><\/strong>, and he is best remembered for directing a number of Bill Murray movies, including Ghostbusters<\/em><\/strong>, Ghostbusters II<\/em><\/strong>, Meatballs<\/em><\/strong>, and Stripes<\/em><\/strong>. His hits continued into the 1990s with comedies like Kindergarten Cop<\/em><\/strong>, Dave<\/em>,<\/strong> and Junior<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Czechoslovakian-born Canadian filmmaker, who first made short films at McMaster University in Hamilton, received an Oscar nomination in 2009 for producing Up in the Air<\/em><\/strong>, which was directed by his son, Jason Reitman. He also produced last year\u2019s Ghostbusters: Afterlife<\/em><\/strong>, which Jason directed. His most recent feature directing credits include My Super Ex-Girlfriend<\/em><\/strong>, No Strings Attached<\/em><\/strong>, and Draft Day<\/em><\/strong>. IMDB lists two upcoming projects with him as director: Triplets <\/em><\/strong>and Summer of Love<\/em><\/strong>. The current status of those is unknown at this time.<\/p>\n

Reitman\u2019s children Jason, Catherine, and Caroline issued a joint statement that reads: \u201cOur family is grieving the unexpected loss of a husband, father and grandfather who taught us to always seek the magic in life. We take comfort that his work as a filmmaker brought laughter and happiness to countless others around the world. While we mourn privately, we hope those who knew him through his films will remember him always.\u201d<\/p>\n
