The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Friday it is banning Will Smith from its Oscars ceremonies for the next 10 years.\u00a0The Independence Day, Men in Black<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0and Bad Boys<\/strong><\/em> star infamously slapped Chris Rock on the Oscars stage last month for making a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s close-cropped hairdo and yelling profanities at the comedian on the live ABC broadcast.<\/p>\n

Moments later, Smith took the stage again — this time to collect a Best Actor statuette for his performance in the 2021 film, King Richard.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>He later apologized<\/a> to the academy and Rock for his behavior, then announced his resignation<\/a> from the academy.<\/p>\n

The Sun<\/a> reported that Smith has since checked into a luxury rehab to deal with the fallout from his assault on Rock, who declined to press charges.\u00a0The tabloid cited an unnamed source as saying: “Will is very upset. He will receive help to deal with the stress.”<\/p>\n

Jada Pinkett Smith suffers from the hair-loss condition, alopecia.\u00a0On Friday, the academy revealed how it will penalize Smith for his outrageous actions.<\/p>\n

The Board has decided, for a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards.
