TOKYO, JAPAN \u2013 April 9, 2022 \u2013<\/b> Animation studio CoMix Wave Films, STORY Inc and Toho Co., Ltd. are proud to reveal to the world for the first time, a teaser trailer and new key art for Makoto Shinkai\u2019s highly anticipated film: Suzume no Tojimari (working title). Furthermore, the film is scheduled to be released theatrically in Japan on November 11, 2022. The upcoming film follows his previous two blockbusters, \u201cYour Name.\u201d (2016) and \u201cWeathering with You\u201d (2019), which garnered unprecedented international acclaim.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must think about how to close the many doors we left open,\u201d says Director Makoto Shinkai as he continues work on the film. \u201cI\u2019ve bestowed that responsibility upon Suzume as she travels across Japan closing various doors. It is my sincere hope that this film leaves its audiences with big smiles and excitement as they walk out of the theater.\u201d<\/p>\n

STORY<\/b><\/p>\n

On the other side of the door, was time in its entirety\u201417-year-old Suzume\u2019s journey begins in a quiet town in Kyushu when she encounters a young man who tells her, \u201cI\u2019m looking for a door.\u201d What Suzume finds is a single weathered door standing upright in the midst of ruins as though it was shielded from whatever catastrophe struck. Seemingly mesmerized by its power, Suzume reaches for the knob\u2026<\/p>\n

Doors begin to open one after another all across Japan, unleashing destruction upon any who are near. Suzume must close these portals to prevent further disaster.<\/p>\n

Within that realm, it was as though all time had melted together in the sky\u2014Drawn in by this mysterious door, Suzume\u2019s journey is about to begin.<\/p>\n

\n<\/b>Accompanied only by a simple \u201cI\u2019ll see you later,\u201d the newly revealed key visual features Suzume with her hair up in a ponytail, standing in front of a door holding a small wooden chair with both hands, about to depart on her journey. The water ripples ever so slightly at her feet as the door is cracked open.<\/p>\n

ABOUT MAKOTO SHINKAI<\/b><\/p>\n

Born in 1973 in Nagano Prefecture. Makoto Shinkai made his commercial debut in 2002 with his self-produced short film \u201cThe Voices of a Distant Star\u201d. Subsequent highly acclaimed works include his first full-length feature film, \u201cThe Place Promised in Our Early Days\u201d (2004) which won Best Animated Film at the 59th Mainichi Film Concours, \u201c5 Centimeters per Second\u201d (2007) which won Best Animated Feature Film at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, \u201cChildren Who Chase Lost Voices\u201d (2011) which won the Golden Monkey King Award at the 8th China International Cartoon and Animation Festival and \u201cThe Garden of Words\u201d (2013) which won the Best Anime Feature Film at the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film in Germany. His 2016 blockbuster hit \u201cyour name.\u201d (2016) made history as the first animated work to be nominated for Director of the Year and won Screenplay of the Year at the 40th Japan Academy Film Prize. It has also won numerous film awards both at home and abroad, including Best Animated Film at the 42nd Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards. \u201cWeathering With You\u201d (2019) represented Japan in the International Feature Film category at the 92nd Academy Awards in the U.S. In India, over 50,000 signatures collected from fans prompted \u201cWeathering With You\u201d to be the first original Japanese animated feature to show in theaters in India.<\/p>\n
