The early pick-up comes ahead of the season one finale of \u201c<strong>Pachinko<\/strong>\u201d on Friday, April 29, 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Following its debut on Apple TV+ last month, global hit series \u201c<strong>Pachinko<\/strong>\u201d received broad critical acclaim and was hailed as \u201cone of the best things on TV,\u201d \u201cTV\u2019s newest masterpiece,\u201d \u201ca triumph\u201d and \u201cone of the best adaptations of all time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">&#8220;Words cannot express my joy in being able to continue telling the extraordinary\u00a0story of this indomitable family,\u201d said creator, writer and executive producer Soo Hugh. \u201cI&#8217;m grateful to the amazing team at Apple and Media Res studio for believing\u00a0and supporting this show and to our\u00a0passionate fans who have cheered us on. It&#8217;s an honor to be able to continue working with this\u00a0amazing cast and crew.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Epic in scope and intimate in tone, \u201c<strong>Pachinko<\/strong>\u201d tells an unforgettable story of war and peace, love and loss, triumph and reckoning. The new season will continue the riveting story that spans generations and is told across three languages \u2013 Korean, Japanese, and English.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u201c<strong>Pachinko<\/strong>&#8221; chronicles the hopes and dreams of a Korean immigrant family across four generations as they leave their homeland in an indomitable quest to survive and thrive. Starting in South Korea in the early 1900s, the story is told through the eyes of a remarkable matriarch, Sunja, who triumphs against all odds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">In this Friday\u2019s season finale episode, Sunja learns that Isak has been arrested and searches for him with the aid of her young son. Solomon makes a fateful decision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u201c<strong>Pachinko<\/strong>\u201d is written and executive produced by Hugh (\u201c<strong>The Terror<\/strong>,\u201d \u201c<strong>The Killing<\/strong>\u201d), who created the series and serves as showrunner. Kogonada and Justin Chon are executive producers and directed four episodes each. Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer executive produce for Media Res, the studio behind the series; Theresa Kang-Lowe executive produces for Blue Marble Pictures; and Richard Middleton also executive produces.\u00a0David Kim and Sebastian Lee co-executive produce.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The series stars Academy Award-winning actress Yuh-Jung Youn as older Sunja; Lee Minho as Hansu; Jin Ha as Solomon; Minha Kim as teenage Sunja; Anna Sawai as Naomi; Eunchae Jung as young Kyunghee; Inji Jeong as Yangjin; Jimmi Simpson as Tom Andrews; Junwoo Han as Yoseb; Kaho Minami as Etsuko; Steve Sanghyun Noh as Isak; Soji Arai as Mozasu; and Yuna as young Sunja.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">In addition to \u201c<strong>Pachinko<\/strong>,\u201d it was recently announced that Soo Hugh will create, co-showrun and executive produce new Apple Original limited series, \u201cThe White Darkness,\u201d which will be executive produced by Theresa Kang-Lowe through Blue Marble Pictures. The second season of \u201c<strong>Pachinko<\/strong>\u201d will also stream alongside new and returning Apple Originals hailing from Media Res, including the Emmy, SAG and Critics Choice Award-winning \u201c<strong>The Morning Show<\/strong>,\u201d which recently received a season three renewal; and, the highly anticipated and star-studded climate change anthology series \u201cExtrapolations\u201d from writer, director and executive producer Scott Z.
