In March, a teaser trailer for “Together” That Neon was released that showcased Franco and Brie’s characters living in their new rural area, with increasingly disturbing imagery set to piano music. That teaser ended with the actors’ characters telling each other, ‘I love you,’ and a shot of their eyeballs up close.
Now, Neon has just released its first trailer for the Michael Shanks-directed film “Together“, which follows Dave Franco and Alison Brie’s journey to repair their relationship, but perhaps with the assistance of an unknown creature that could worsen the situation.
The trailer begins with a couple that appears to be struggling with their relationship, including issues of complacency and feelings of real love, following the move into a new home. In true horror fashion, it’s a house located away from the city and near a forest that seems to be deserted. In the trailer, we see the couple struggling with their relationship, then they kiss passionately, which causes their lips to become stuck together. It appears that Franco’s character is being controlled by someone else. The trailer presents the horror on screen alongside the joyful sounds of the Turtles’ 1960s classic, ‘Happy Together’.
“Listen to me, listen to me. We’ve got to get out of here,” says Brie’s character before scary clips are shown of each of their bodies being taken. The trailer’s end implies that the pair starts to get physically attached as the trailer closes with Brie grabbing a saw and pouring whiskey in Franco’s mouth “for the pain.”
“Years into their relationship, Tim and Millie find themselves at a crossroads as they move to the country, abandoning all that is familiar in their lives except each other,” reads a synopsis of the film. “With tensions already flaring, a nightmarish encounter with a mysterious, unnatural force threatens to corrupt their lives, their love and their flesh.”
Franco, 39, stated that he and Brie, 42, have gained greater respect for each other as partners in work and life, as the movie “Together” made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January. The couple first met in 2011 and married in 2017.
