Sharon Stone Reveals She Suffered Nine Miscarriages As Supreme Court Repeals Roe v. Wade

In the week of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, numerous celebrities, including Sharon Stone, have shared their beliefs that the decision will cause irreparable harm to American citizens, as well as their own personal experiences with pregnancy. The Oscar-nominated actress, for instance, revealed that she suffered nine miscarriages throughout her life, NBC News is reporting.

Stone shared her experience underneath an Instagram post by People magazine. In the post, Dancing with the Stars performer Peta Murgatroyd shared that she also lost a pregnancy, while her husband, fellow professional dance and reality star Maks Chmerkovskiy, was visiting his native Ukraine.

Stone also noted that she waited until now to publicly share the news about her miscarriages, as she noted that women are made to feel that losing a baby is “something to bear alone and secretly,” with a sense of failure. The Golden Globe-winning actress, who’s the mother of sons Roan, Laird and Quinn through adoption, wrote: “We, as females don’t have a forum to discuss the profundity of this loss. I lost nine children by miscarriage.”

Stone also criticized the lack of care offered to women who have suffered miscarriages. She stated that anyone who has suffered that type of loss requires “compassion and empathy and healing,” not being made to feel as though they’ve failed as a woman.

“It is no small thing, physically nor emotionally, yet we are made to feel it is something to bear alone and secretly with some kind of sense of failure. Instead of receiving the much needed compassion and empathy and healing which we so need,” the 64-year-old Basic Instinct star stated.

“Female health and wellness left to the care of the male ideology has become lax at best, ignorant in fact, and violently oppressive in effort,” the actress also noted.

The news of Stone’s miscarriages comes after she previously revealed in a 2017 interview with EXTRATV that a genetic blood condition she has prevented her from carrying a child to term.

In an interview she gave to BBC Radio’s Woman’s Hour last year, the actress praised other female stars, included Chrissy Teigen and Vanessa Kirby, for speaking out about “issues of loss and heartache and rape and brutalization and all of the things that happened to us and to our bodies…We are not carrying shame that doesn’t belong to us. We are letting it out.”

Besides Stone, such celebrities as Bette Midler, Amy Schumer, Maria Shriver, Valerie Bertinelli, actress Emily Osment and television personality Padma Lakshmi shared their reactions to the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade on social media today.

In a series of furious tweets in reaction to the decision, Midler said: “They did it…#SCOTUS has overturned #RoevWade, enshrined in the Constitution as settled law for over 50 years. How dare they? This #SCOTUS is absolutely tone-deaf to the will and even the actual needs of the American people.”

Schumer reacted to the news by sharing a series of Instagram Story posts from writer and producer Tracie Egan Morrissey. The Emmy Award-winning actress stated: “Late term abortions via school shootings are still available…women’s bodily autonomy should not be determined by men who’ve been accused of sexual assault.”

Shriver also weighed in on the matter from her Twitter account, stating: “I’m heartbroken by this decision. It makes millions of women unsafe, unseen, unprotected as we now are. It makes me feel as though all of our progress has been rolled back in an instant. Make no mistake, this is a devastating blow to women’s rights.”

Bertinelli also expressed her thoughts on the ruling on Twitter, saying: “We are not the greatest country in the world. The majority of Americans want stricter gun laws and more access to healthcare.”

Osment also spoke out against the decision as she criticized the Republican party in a since-deleted post on her Twitter account. “Senate passes gun control bill the same day Roe v Wade is overturned. Every glimmer of hope is bashed down by the regressive GOP.”

In a lengthy Twitter threat, Lakshmi pointed out that the ruling will only serve to negatively impact the safety of those women who are seeking abortions. “People will still get abortions,” she noted. “These procedures won’t stop just because Roe v. Wade is overturned. This will only prevent safe, legal abortions from taking place.”

The overturning of Roe v. Wade allows for abortion bans in approximately half of the states in the U.S. Thirteen states, mainly in the South and Midwest, had laws in place that would immediately ban abortion if Roe v. Wade was overturned. Another half-dozen states have near-total bans or prohibition after six weeks of pregnancy.
