Katy O’Brian and Glen Powell To Star in Paramount’s ‘The Running Man’

Paramount Pictures has announced that Katy O’Brian and Glen Powell will star in its upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Running Man. Edgar Wright will be directing, with a script he co-wrote with Michael Bacali. An earlier film adaptation of the story had been released in 1987, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. As reported in Variety, the upcoming remake of is slated to be released on November 21, 2025, with filming slated to get underway soon In London.

Published in 1982 under the pseudonym of Richard Bachman, King’s dystopic novel imagined a totalitarian America in 2025 whose desperate citizens would have to perform in violent game shows to survive, such as “The Running Man,” which required teams of killers to prey on its contestants in order to win monetary prizes.

In the remake, Powell will be cast in the role of a desperate contestant who participates in this deadly game in order to raise money for his daughter, who is ill.

 

Glen Powell will appear in the upcoming Halloween special for Family Guy, and has teased he may be seen in a Top Gun: Maverick sequel. Katy O’Brian had appeared in Black Lightning and The Mandalorian and starred opposite Kristen Stewart in Love Lies Bleeding, a thriller in which she played a bodybuilder. After making its debut earlier this year at Sundance, Love Lies Bleeding was released by A24. O’Brien also can be seen in Paramount’s Mission Impossible movie and in Universal’s Twisters, a disaster flick in which Powell starred.

Paramount has also shifted its 2025 release schedule. Vicious, directed by Bryan Bertino and starring Dakota Fanning, will be released on February 28, and an animated musical about the Smurfs, starring Rihanna and directed by Chris Miller and Matt Landon, will debut on July 18. And a reboot of Naked Gun starring Liam Neeson has been moved to August 1.
