“Freedom is no fear, just like Tom Cruise,” Benicio Del Toro tells Leonardo DiCaprio, mid-car-chase, in the latest trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another.” And that’s right before DiCaprio heaves himself out of a moving car.
Anderson’s 10th feature, which is his second Thomas Pynchon-inspired adaptation after ”Inherent Vice,” is likely to miss fall festivals entirely after it didn’t make the lineups for this week’s Venice or TIFF.
Anderson missed the Oscar nominations for Oscar-winning films ”Phantom Thread” and ”Licorice Pizza” and instead chose to play his pot-fueled Southern California noir ‘Inherent Vice’ at the New York Film Festival.
The new trailer highlights the action sequences in “One Battle After Another“, which is accompanied by Beyonce’s stirring song ‘Freedom’ from her 2016 album ‘Lemonade.’ Also in the cast are Del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti.
The film concentrates on a group of radical revolutionaries known as the French 75 (not the classic brunch cocktail), who disbanded over a decade ago, but are reactivated once a former enemy appears.
“One Battle After Another” is scheduled to be released on September 26, 2025.
