In the early 90s, while at the video store with his friends who wanted to rent Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead, Matthew asked the clerk if they had any copies of Naked Lunch available. A film buff from an early age, he would turn his fascination into his own review site in 2010; Movie Review from Gene Shalit’s Moustache. TV Review: Should You be Excited to Return to the World of “Willow”?

Though they may have been panned by critics upon release, the post Star Wars Lucas Films productions of Howard the Duck and Willow meant a lot to children of the 80’s, like me. If something new was out to rent at the video store, I’d tell my parents to rent Willow, again. When it came…

Review: Grieving with “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”

While the first Black Panther was an overwhelming success, the MCU didn’t need a film to turn the tide of its fortunes then. The series up to that point and directly after was the cream of the crop for the comic/action film fans. In recent times though, while still the jewel of the crown, the…

Review: Steer Clear of “Black Adam”

If you know nothing about the DC character Black Adam, you at least know one thing; Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been hard at work for a while trying to bring this character to the big screen. As Deadpool is to Ryan Reynolds, Black Adam is to The Rock. From studio execs first not wanting…

Summer of 2001– I was driving around with some friends listening to the new Kool Keith album when all of a sudden the eccentric emcee drops one of the most random names; Cuba Gooding Sr. We laughed heartily as; while there has to be a Cuba Gooding Sr. if there is a Cuba Gooding Jr.,…

New York Film Festival / Review: Seeing Past the “White Noise”

Many directors throughout film history have a well defined signature. They’re always associated with a specific type of film. Even though Martin Scorsese has made many films outside the crime/suspense genre, the majority of moviegoers will think only of his gangster pics. Noah Baumbach on the other hand, has almost exclusively delivered personal, dramatic tales…

Film Review: Don’t be Scared of a Little “Smile”

Genre films have always lent themselves as an avenue to explore deep, human issues. The powers that be might always shove them to the back of the pack when it comes to considering the merit of a well devised horror film. More and more though, people are realizing just how cathartically powerful the themes horror…

Film Review: Sometimes, You Need to Just “See How They Run”

While it never went away, the Whodunit genre is having a bit of a resurgence. The Kenneth Branagh helmed Poirot outings followed by the popularity of Knives Out and the fervor for its upcoming sequel, Glass Onion, are just a few signs that people are ready to head to the theater for a good mystery….
