The 37th Tokyo International Film Festival Announced its Line-Up

The 37th Tokyo International Film Festival has announced its full line-up, which will run from October 28 to November 6. There are 110 films in the line-up, with a focus on ten world premieres by emerging talents presented in the Asian Future section. The selection was made from 2,023 entries, up from 1,942 last year.

Not only does the festival showcase Asian film production, but it also presents the most high-profile international titles, including highlights in the World Focus section and a review of five films about Italian actor Marcello Mastroianni. The festival will start with director Kazuya Shiraishi’s film, 11 Rebels. and will conclude with Marcello Mio, which is directed by Christophe Honoré and stars jury member Chiara Mastroianni. The same section also contains Pedro Almodóvar’s The Room Next Door, a late addition.

In addition to a section dedicated to animation, which is considered very strong, this year TIFF will also include the Women’s Empowerment section to explore female perspectives as directors and/or as protagonists of narratives, in collaboration with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, a section featuring a symposium that will invite female directors to discuss the past and future of cinema.
