‘Bad Shabbos’ Stars Jon Bass, David Paymer on Making the Indie Ensemble Comedy (Video Interviews)

There haven’t been many comedies about Jewish traditions, something that filmmaker Daniel Robbins hopes to change with Bad Shabbos, his award-winning ensemble comedy with one of the most eclectic casts of Hollywood veterans, newcomers, and even a rap star. The premise for the movie involves Jon Bass’ David bringing his Goyim (i.e. non-Jewish) fiancée Meg (Meghan Leathers) to join his family for a traditional Sabbath dinner. Meg’s parents are also coming and meeting David’s family for the first time, so what could possibly go wrong?

Well, a member of the family suddenly dies, that’s what, and with the help of his family and the building doorman Jordan (played by Cliff “Method Man” Smith of the Wu-Tang Clan), David needs to figure out how to save the night. Playing David’s parents are David Paymer and Kyra Sedgwick, with a fairly large cast around them.

Cinema Daily US spoke with actors Jon Bass and David Paymer in the video interviews you can watch above and below. Bass might be best known for his role on the comedy anthology series, Miracle Workers, as well as on the Marvel/Disney+ series, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, but he’s one of those actors who you see everywhere and immediately think, “Hey, it’s that guy!”

Exclusive Interview with Actor David Paymer

To call actor David Paymer a legend would be an understatement, as he’s been appearing in films and on television going all the way back to 1979 – surely you remember the cab driver in The In-Laws, right?– but what people might not realize is that he’s also an accomplished director with credits directing 34 shows over the past twenty years. When Cinema Daily US spoke with Paymer, we also talked to him about reuniting with Billy Crystal thirty years after making Mr. Saturday Night together to reprise their roles for the Broadway musical.

Bad Shabbos will open in New York at the Quad Cinema on Friday, May 23, and then expand to L.A. and other cities on June 6.
