The ability to use their specialty training to perform labor-intensive work, especially in the most adverse situations, can be conquered by anyone, no matter what job they have to perform. Daisy Ridley’s protagonist of Joey Locke in the upcoming action thriller, Cleaner, is a former soldier-turned-window cleaner who does just that in her highly different – but equally challenging – positions.

Despite being forced to make a downgrade in her career, due to being unapologetically complicated and flawed, Joey will battle any enemy to protect those she cares about, especially her brother, and even strangers, while facing conflict in her jobs. She fearlessly faces those battles through moments of both humor and real emotion, particularly concern and protectiveness.

Martin Campbell, who rose to fame in the spy-action-thriller genre by directing such movies as Casino Royale and GoldenEye, helmed Cleaner. The new drama was written by Simon Uttley.

Besides Ridley, the upcoming film also stars Taz Skylar, who’s known for starring in the acclaimed Netflix series One Piece, the live-action adaptation of the manga series of the same name. Cleaner also reunites Campbell with his Casino Royale star, Clive Owen.

Cleaner, which is et in present-day London, follows a group of radical activists as they take over an energy company’s annual gala. The group seizes 300 hostages in order to expose the corruption of the hosts.

Their just cause is hijacked by an extremist within their ranks, who is ready to murder everyone in the building to send his anarchic message to the world. It falls to Joey, who’s suspended 50 stories up on the outside of the building while she’s cleaning the building’s windows, to save those trapped inside, including her younger brother, Michael (Matthew Tuck).

Quiver Distribution will release Cleaners in theaters this Friday, February 21, 2025. To help promote the movie’s distribution, Campbell generously took the time last week to talk about making his latest action thriller during an exclusive interview over Zoom. Among other things, the filmmaker discussed how he worked with Ridley, Skylar and Owen, who have previous experience performing stunts in the Star Wars, One Piece and James Bond series, on creating their physicality for Cleaner.
