In 2012, a trio of saturation “SAT” divers repairing a pipeline at the bottom of the North Sea ran into problems when the ship they were attached to began to drift off course due to a heavy storm. One of the divers, Chris Lemons, was trapped at the bottom of the sea after his umbilical (essentially his air supply and means of communication) snapped, leading to a race against time to save him.
Filmmaker Alex Parkinson told that story in his 2018 doc, Last Breath, and now, almost seven years later, he has directed a new narrative feature, also called Last Breath, starring Woody Harrelson, Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), and Finn Cole (Animal Kingdom) as Lemons.
Cinema Daily US had a chance to speak with Parkinson about the differences between the two films and how the actors prepared for recreating the treacherous rescue mission, which you can watch in the video interview above.
Last Breath opens nationwide on Friday, February 28.
