‘Sacramento’ Filmmaker Michael Angarano and Partner Maya Erskine Team For a Road Comedy (Video Interview)

Michael Angarano has been acting since he was eight years old, but he’s also made forays into directing, including his new movie, Sacramento, a mature dramedy that pairs him with many of the actors he’s known for much of his life, including his partner and children’s mother, Maya Erskine (Mr. and Mrs. Smith).

In Sacramento, Angarano plays Rickey, who has an encounter with Forbes’ Tallie early in the movie. Years later, he coerces his childhood friend Glenn (Michael Cera) to join him on road trip to Sacramento, much to the concern of Glenn’s pregnant wife (played by Kristen Stewart), who is unhappy about her husband going off with his annoying friend. It turns out that Rickey has ulterior motives for the road trip in hope of reuniting with Tallie.

Cinema Daily US had a chance to speak with Angarano and Erskine about Sacramento in a video you can watch above. Angarano spoke about how the idea for Sacramento came along with Forbes telling us how she had signed on to make the movie before they were in a relationship. They also talk about casting Cera and Kristen Stewart as well as famed WWE superstar A.J. “Lee” Mendez, and about how they work things out between each of them working vs. taking care of the kids.

Sacramento premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2024, and it will be released in theaters on Friday, April 11.
