Ever since he was introduced as Eggsy in Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Secret Service and later played Elton John in Rocketman, actor Taron Egerton has been making waves with the projects he takes on, especially as he gets more involved with producing. He is credited as one of the producers on She Rides Shotgun, a tense crime-thriller with more than its share of action, and a movie that puts the Wales-born actor into a very different role as a violent man trying to protect his daughter.
Based on Jordan Harper’s novel of the same name and directed by Nick Rowland, She Rides Shotgun stars Egerton as Nathan “Nate” McLuskey, a man recently-released from prison who shows up to pick his estranged daughter Polly, played by (then) 10-year-old Ana Sophia Heger, up from school. Nate’s been on the run, having been “greenlit” for assassination by the white supremacist group, Aryan Steel. Nate and his daughter go on the run, helped by a kindly detective, played by Rob Yang, and the corrupt Sheriff Houser (John Caroll Lynch), the secret Steel leader who put the greenlight on Nate and Polly in the first place.
Cinema Daily US had a chance to speak with Egerton and Ms. Heger over Zoom about working together in this action-thriller that put their characters into all sorts of dangerous but thrilling situations. You can watch that interview in the video player above.
She Rides Shotgun opens theatrically in select cities on August 1.
