Surely, it has to be difficult being the brother of a filmmaker or actor who has found a lot of massive success, something that might be confirmed if you were to ask Jonah Nolan, Casey Affleck, Clint Howard, or even Martin McDonagh’s older brother, John Michael McDonagh. For years, Max and Sam Eggers may have been living quietly under the shadow of older brother Robert Eggers, whose debut feature The VVitch was received with such acclaim, but at least Max Eggers ended up co-writing his brother’s sophomore feature, The Lighthouse.

Now, Max and Sam are breaking out on their own with the psychological horror film, The Front Room, which they adapted from the short story of the same name by Susan Hill, who wrote The Woman in Black and its sequel. It stars Brandy Norwood (I Know What You Did Last Summer) as the newly-pregnant Belinda, whose husband (Andrew Burnap) just lost his father, so they’re convinced to take in his ailing step-mother Solange, played by Kathryn Hunter from Poor Thing. Once in the house, Solange proves to be a bit of a monstrosity, constantly judging and reprimanding Belinda, never happy with anything she does.

Cinema Daily US spoke with the twin brothers about their background doing theater with their family that led to them into directing their first movie, how Kathryn Hunter brought her all to playing Solange, and how being directors with acting experience helped them figure out how to split their directing duties.
