After co-creating hugely popular horror franchises, “Saw” and “Insidious,” Australian-born Leigh Whannell eventually started directing himself, first with Insidious: Chapter 3 in 2005, then his original sci-fi thriller Upgrade. In 2020, Whannell’s The Invisible Man, starring Elisabeth Moss, a very different take on the classic Universal monster.
Now, Whannell is back with Wolf Man, a different take on the werewolf movie, first made famous with Universal’s The Wolf Man in 1941. This version stars Christopher Abbott as Blake, a San Francisco writer, who returns to his childhood home in Oregon with his wife and daughter (Julia Garner, Matilda Firth) after he learns of his father’s death. On their way to clear out his father’s old cabin, their moving truck goes off the road, leading to an incident where Blake is attacked by a fierce beast… and soon, he begins to transform into something else himself.
