As a new promotional effort, AMC Theatres is launching an innovative discount pass that will give subscribers to its Stubs loyalty program a 50 percent discount on a large tub of popcorn every day of the week. The promotion begins on Cyber Monday, December 1, when the new passes can be purchased.
The AMC Popcorn Pass costs $29.99 per year, not including taxes, and also continues the existing Stubs perk of one refill per day at no extra cost.
In announcing the new discount pass, Carrje Trotter, who is AMC’s senior vice president of marketing, stated: “The AMC Popcorn Pass makes it easier than ever for guests to enjoy the treat they love each time they visit. From families making memories to movie fans who never miss a blockbuster, this new offering delivers incredible value and adds even more enjoyment to every trip to the movies.”
Popcorn has long been the single most popular item at AMC concessions. Maverick AMC’s CEO Adam Aron has also tried to bank on this fact by assembling a cohort of retail stores to sell its popcorn offsite. In the Los Angeles area, AMC popcorn sells for as much as $11,99, even more than other snack items such as chicken tenders or pizza.
There are a few conditions attached to the new Popcorn Pass, which can be purchased throughout the year at any AMC location in the United States. The discount applies to on-site purchases only–it does not apply to mobile orders. A photo ID must be presented when using the Popcorn Pass,’ since only the registered pass-holder can take advantage of it. The discount replaces the AMC CLASSICS Annual Bucket promotion.
The deal will be available to AMC Stubs members at all AMC locations in the United States. With more than 850 theaters and 9,500 screens, AMC is the world’s largest grouping of theatrical exhibitors.
