Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan is reportedly including Anne Hathaway and Zendaya in his next film for Universal Pictures, joining Tom Holland and Matt Damon in the cast.
Lupita Nyong’o is also rumored to have been cast in the movie, though no further details have been released. The yet-untitled film is scheduled for release on July 17, 2026.
Hathaway had already worked with Nolan on two of his films. She played the role of Selina Kyle/Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises (2012) and that of Dr. Amelia Brand in Interstellar (2014). She had earlier appeared in a raft of films over the past two decades, including The Princess Diaries (2001), Ella Enchanted (2004), The Devil Wears Prada (2006), Les Misérables (2012), Ocean’s 8 (2018), and The Idea of You (2024).
Zendaya, who has never worked with Nolan before, played MJ in MCU’s Spider-Man trilogy and Chani in the Dune franchise. She also appeared in The Greatest Showman (2017), Malcolm & Marie (2021), and Challengers (2024).
In April, Hathaway told a Vanity Fair interviewer that she was grateful for Nolan’s support at a difficult time in her career after she won an Oscar for Les Misérables. “A lot of people wouldn’t give me roles because they were so concerned about how toxic my identity had become online,” she was quoted as saying. “I had an angel in Christopher Nolan, who did not care about that and gave me one of the most beautiful roles I’ve had in [Interstellar] one of the best films that I’ve been a part of … And my career did not lose momentum the way it could have if he hadn’t backed me.”
In addition to her upcoming role in Nolan’s film, Hathaway is quite busy these days with roles in Paper Tiger, Flowervale Street, Mother Mary, and Disney’s Princess Diaries 3. For her part, Zendaya will next star in The Drama, along with Robert Pattinson.
