The biopic treatment is being given to another 80s music icon, with TriStar choosing J.C. Lee to write the screenplay for the Boy George biopic, which is currently being developed.
Oscar-winning producer Cathy Schulman, and George’s manager Paul Kemsley, Jeremy M. Rosen, Kevin King Templeton, and Primary Wave Music are the people responsible for producing the movie. Boy George will be the executive producer.
Despite being in early development, the film will have Boy George and Culture Club music, which Primary Wave Music has the rights to. Lee will write the screenplay, which will be adapted from Boy George’s autobiographies Take It Like A Man, Straight and Karma, will concentrate on the successful years of Culture Club.
Boy George became a well-known singer for Culture Club, and he achieved seven UK Top 10 singles, nine U.S. Top 10 singles, including Karma Chameleon and Do You Really Want to Hurt Me, and has sold over 100 million singles and over 50 million albums. George is a globally recognized figure and remains one of the most colorful pop stars in British history.
His professional background encompasses sold-out tours worldwide, numerous television series, and a recent Broadway run in Moulin Rouge! The singer who won the Grammy Award has universal cultural significance that transcends age, race, color, and nationality.
Lee was the co-writer of Luce, the film version of the play he wrote. He has worked on TV shows such as ABC’s How to Get Away With Murder, HBO’s Looking, Girls, and Apple’s The Morning Show. On the other hand, Schulman is responsible for overseeing Welle Entertainment’s president and CEO.
Schulman’s most recent venture was the production of Amazon’s hit romantic comedy, The Idea Of You, which starred Anne Hathaway and was directed by Michael Showalter.
This isn’t the sole biopic being developed about a music superstar, there’s also a biopic about Bruce Springsteen, Deliver Me From Nowhere, is being developed, which will concentrate on the production of the legendary Nebraska album.
In addition to that, there is the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, which features Timothee Chalamet portraying Dylan in a film that will chronicle his rise from the folk scene to become a musical legend.
