Brad Pitt’s Formula 1 film is racing toward release a year from now, on June 27, 2025, according to Apple Original Films. Directed by Joseph Kosinski of Top Gun: Maverick fame, the yet-untitled feature will be released globally in partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures, which has acquired both domestic and international rights. The film will also be released to IMAX theaters, putting viewers in the driver’s seat at leading race courses around the world.

The film features 60-year-old Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a seasoned driver who comes out of retirement to mentor Joshua Pierce, a rookie played by Nigerian-British actor Damson Idris. In addition to these two leading characters, Formula 1 will feature an award-winning cast that includes Javier Bardem, Kim Bodnia, Kerry Condon, Samson Kayo, Tobias Menzies, and Sarah Niles. The screenplay is being written by Ehren Kruger, an Oscar nominee who was also on the writing team that scripted Top Gun: Maverick.

Though the recent writers’ strike played havoc with the film’s production and scheduling, it was shot during actual Grand Prix races and includes footage of all ten teams in the mix, giving viewers a perspective from the cockpits of the world’s fastest vehicles. Much of the upcoming film was shot at the Silverstone circuit.

Sir Lewis Hamilton, a racing champion in his own right and one of the producers with Dawn Apollo Films, has been quoted as saying: “I have such high hopes for it. I know we’re going to make the best racing movie that’s ever existed, both visually, and we’re going to work on making sure we pull on the heartstrings of all those fans.”

Other producers include Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman for Jerry Bruckheimer Films; Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner for Plan B Entertainment. The film is being executive-produced by Penni Thow for Copper CEO.
