As One Piece moves into its second season on Netflix, a raft of newcomers will be joining the cast of the live-action adaptation of the manga/anime series about the Straw Hat Pirates, with Inaki Godoy returning in the role of Monkey D. Luffy.

The three most prominent additions to the cast in the upcoming season, now in production, will be Werner Coetser, Brendan Murray, and Clive Russell. Each of them will be playing one of Monkey’s allies: Coetser will appear as Dorry, Murray as Brogy, and Russell will be seen in the role of Crocus, the doctor and lighthouse keeper.

Other newcomers include David Dastmalchian, Jazzara Jaslyn, Camrus Johnson, and Daniel Lasker, who will be playing characters from the Baroque Works criminal syndicate. Dastmalchian will play Mr. 3, Jaslyn will play Miss Valentine, Johnson will play Mr. 5, and Lasker will play Mr. 9.

Besides Godoy, several other veterans of the opening season will be returning for the second iteration, including Mackenyu, Jacob Romero, Emily Rudd, and Taz Skylar.

According to the original synopsis for season one, “As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer ‘Red-Haired’ Shanks. But Luffy’s life changed when he accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber…at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure…one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary ‘One Piece,’ said to be the greatest treasure in the world…”

One Piece had its premiere in August of 2023 and became Netflix’s most popular series in the second half of that year. Showrunners and executive producers for the second season will be Matt Owens and Joe Tracz. Steven Maeda, who was also a showrunner in 2023, will also be an executive producer for the upcoming season.Tracz had earlier worked as a writer and one of the executive producers at Disney+ for the first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Other executive producers include Eiichiro Oda, who created the original One Piece series, joined by Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Tetsu Fujimura, and Chris Symes.
