Director Matt Reeves Reveals Details About ‘The Batman: Part 2’

Director Matt Reeves has confirmed that filming for The Batman: Part 2 will start in April or May of 2026, with pre-production already underway. Robert Pattinson will be reprising his role as the Gotham hero, but there will be changes in how his character will be developed.

In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, Reeves declared how the new sequel would be focusing more on the character of Bruce Wayne. He declared: “The first story is so much about the Batman, and so I always wanted in the movies to make sure that… we never lose Rob at the center of these stories.”

In his remarks, Reeves was somewhat ambivalent about how sidekick Robin would be included in the new production. He said, “Well, sure, you talk about everything. There is probably not any character that we didn’t talk about. What could this be? What could that be? That’s part of the beginning of anything.” Reeves also confirmed that Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Falcone would not be making an appearance in the film.

In discussing how the production team is conceptualizing the villain, Reeves was quoted as saying, “Picking the right villain that digs into what that does, that sort of goes into his past and his life. That was what drove that discussion. I won’t tell you where we ended up, but we’re super excited about it, and I will say it’s never really been done in a movie before.”

According to Reeves, The Batman: Part 2 will remain exclusively a project of DC Elseworlds, and will be separate from James Gunn’s DCU. Addressing the fact that Gunn had expressed interest in Reeves directing a DCU project, he replied: “We haven’t talked about anything like that… I want to play out the stories we began and arrive at the conclusion that I hoped we’d arrived at from the beginning.”

The projected theatrical release date for The Batman: Part 2 is October of 2027.
