The Hollywood writers’ and screen actors’ strike continues to wreak havoc. Today it was announced that the 75th Emmy Awards ceremony—originally scheduled to air on September 18—has been postponed until January 15, 2024. Also, the date for the Creative Arts Emmys have been moved from September 9 and 10 to January 6 and 7. That ceremony will be televised on January 13.
The postponements were announced jointly by the Television Academy and Fox.

In its press release, Fox stated: “As the Emmy Awards celebrates its 75th Anniversary, the show will broadcast live on FOX coast-to-coast from the Peacock Theater at LA Live and will honor the talented performers, writers, directors and craftspeople whose work has entertained, inspired and connected viewers across the globe throughout the past year.”
Nominations for the upcoming awards cycle had been announced in July, two days before the SAG-AFTRA strike began. To qualify for consideration, shows must have premiered between June of 2022 and May of 2023.

Highlights of the current raft of nominations include Succession (27 nominations), The Last of Us (25 nominations, The White Lotus (21) and Ted Lasso (21).
In a recent interview on NPR’s All Things Considered, the network’s television critic Eric Deggans was quoted as saying: “A long strike lasting into the fall is going to affect the pipeline of new shows,” He added, “It’s possible next year’s Emmys won’t have nearly the amount of great shows that we have this year. So we should sit back and enjoy and celebrate this great run of nominated shows right now, because next year we might not have this many great shows to look back on.”
The show will air on Fox from 8-11 p.m. EST/5-8 p.m. PT on Monday, January 15, 2024, which is the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
